Thinking of Selling Your Items at Auction

Like most firms, Prestige Philately has a rather technical, legalistic set of terms for doing business (see below).  Unlike most firms, our Vendor Terms are designed to benefit both parties, not just the auction house.  And, unlike most firms, our terms are simple and easy to understand.

Our Vendor Terms can be summed up in a single sentence: You give us the responsibility to market your material, we do the job as professionally as possible, and charge you a fair price for doing so.

Unlike most other auction firms, we are paid purely on performance.  We charge you a simple, no nonsense, flat 14% commission rate on sales.  The better the sale price, the more we both benefit.  We earn more in commissions, and you get a better final result.  And if we fail to achieve a sale, we don’t deserve to get paid.  So, no sale, no charge.

At Prestige Philately we don’t charge you any “hidden extras”.  NO lotting fees; NO minimum value penalties; NO unsold lot fees; NO charge for illustrations (and they’re all in colour); NO advertising levy; NO insurance “contribution”.

When you entrust your treasures to Prestige Philately, you can be confident that you will receive the best overall package possible.  Specifically, you are assured of professional lotting and describing, sensible estimates, excellent presentation of your material in world-class full-colour catalogues, outstanding results and, finally, on-time Payment.

As we put it: "Results with Intergrity".

Is my collection valuable?

This is one of the most frequent questions we are asked and it is also the hardest to answer. The key to stamp values lies in many different and sometimes obscure variables which in the majority of cases only an experienced philatelic professional can assess. Too often collectors are given incorrect information as to the value of their collection and make uninformed decisions on how best to proceed with the sale of their assets.

The best way to determine the value of your stamp collection and whether it is worth auctioning is to ask one of our in-house experts who can properly assess your collection. We will provide you with friendly, professional advice.

At Prestige our corporate motto is “Results with Integrity”. Our aim is to achieve outstanding results for you without compromising our professional and ethical standards. We pride ourselves on giving objective advice to allow you to make a quality decision.

Signature Series - For Collections of Distinction

At Prestige we are particularly keen to talk with clients who wish to take advantage of our top-end “Signature Series” sales for collections of distinction. There is no better way for your collecting achievements to be recognised than in a sumptuous hardbound full colour catalogue in which all the illustrations are placed within the text, supported by a permanent stand-alone website bearing your name.

Partner with us

At Prestige we believe in partnering with our vendors to achieve maximum returns. We invite you to provide background information that will help us market your material. In particular, how much did you pay for your key items? Where did you buy them, and when? We invite you to highlight unusual items. We invite you to submit a list of other collectors who you think might be interested in your material.

We commit to providing you with exceptional levels of service. We offer you expert lotting, describing, and estimating. We offer you the finest catalogues produced in the Southern Hemisphere. We offer you promotional opportunities rarely available elsewhere. We aggressively develop our mailing list to create maximum competition for your material.

And we do all this for a highly competitive all-encompassing fee of 14% on the hammer price of lots that are actually sold. If we fail to sell any item, there is no charge, even if we have chosen to place it on the front of the catalogue, or to advertise it around the world.

At Prestige you are dealing with collectors who understand the effort you have put into acquiring items for your collection. As collectors, we also know what other buyers are looking for. In addition, we keep our finger on the pulse of the market so we have a very good feel for current trends and price levels.

You have invested time, sweat and money in developing your collection. Allow us to provide you with presentation of your material that adequately reflects your commitment. And let us put a smile on your face when you receive your vendor cheque!

What Happens Now? - The Vendor Cycle

1. Vendor Receipt. When you consign to Prestige Philately, the first thing we do is issue you with a statement of what you have left with us. If delivery to our office is required, our receipt will specify an agreed amount for which the material is fully insured in transit, at no cost to you. (Insurance cover is also available for consignments sent to us by registered mail or courier from any country. Just ask for it.) The Vendor Receipt is signed by both parties as evidence of a contract between us.

2. Lotting. This is a complicated process, requiring the highest levels of professional skill and diligence on the part of our philatelists. It is a three-part process, covering the actual lotting, the describing, and the valuing of the material. This is not a job for amateurs, or for the lazy and indifferent.

3. Pre-Auction Vendor Advice. About a month before the sale, you will receive a copy of the auction catalogue and a detailed list of all your material that is included in the sale.

4. Auction Day. You are welcome to attend and find out first hand why so many people regard a Prestige auction as an “experience”, first class entertainment in which they participate with enthusiasm. Prices realised are made available on our website, and e-mailed to buyers and sellers alike, immediately after the auction concludes.

5. Preliminary Vendor Advice. About a week after the auction, we will mail out a detailed summary of your results.

6. Final Vendor Advice and Payment. Between 5 and 6 weeks after the auction, we will send you a further detailed advice that includes any post-auction sales, any returned items(thank fully very few from any auction), and any lots bought subject to obtaining a certificate of authenticity. Payment will also be made at this time by cheque, bank draft, or direct deposit into your bank account, as you prefer.

7. Unsold Lots. Our policy is to re-offer any unsold lots in a subsequent auction. However, you may request that they be returned to you.

Ready to Sell?

We are paid purely on performance. We charge you a simple, no nonsense, flat 14% commission rate on sales. The better the sale price, the more we both benefit. We earn more in commissions, and you get a better final result. And if we fail to achieve a sale, we don’t deserve to get paid. So, no sale, no charge.

At Prestige Philately we don’t charge you any "hidden extras". NO lotting fees; NO minimum value penalties; NO unsold lot fees; NO charge for illustrations (and they’re all in colour); NO advertising levy; NO insurance "contribution".

When you entrust your treasures to Prestige Philately, you can be confident that you will receive the best overall package possible. Specifically, you are assured of professional lotting and describing, sensible estimates, excellent presentation of your material in world-class full-colour catalogues and, finally, outstanding results.
